A Day For Darnell

A charity concert for Darnell, a baby suffering from a terminal condition organised by students of Truro College.

Five month old Darnell Koriya has severe Spinal Muscular Atrophy. This is a hereditary disease causing muscle wasting in the limbs of infants and young children. Darnell has trouble breathing and feeding; he cannot sit, stand or even lift his head. There is an 80% chance he won’t make it to his first birthday.

There is no cure. But with the right treatment and support, we can improve Darnell’s quality of life dramatically and make his short life on earth as pain-free as possible. To this end, a group of students from Truro College have banded together to organise a day of live music, all profits of which will go towards helping Darnell and other beautiful babies like him.

This promises to be a killer of a gig, with ten hot bands straight from the Truro scene bringing fresh new sounds ranging from classic rock, punk and metal to techno, surf-acoustic and Muse-style alternative rock. Devotees of the Truro music scene will note Tom Law’s name among the crop; his chilled, innovative surf songwriting has marked him out from every other singer-songwriter in the county. Likewise, Para Siempre, whose inexorably catchy hook lines begin to ring from the pubs and clubs of Cornwall, are a sure bet for success.

The event will be held at Helford Theatre, Truro College, from noon on Saturday 23rd February. There is the chance to win a guitar package worth £150.00, including amp, leads, teaching DVD and strap. Entrance is £3.00, and a CD featuring tracks from the associated bands will be on sale at a later date.
