On the Edge October Festival

"On the Edge" (1-8 October)  - part of SeaBritain 2005 - is a packed week of walks, talks and events celebrating the distinctive scenery and wildlife, arts and culture, history, geology and atmosphere of West Cornwall's mining coast.

Throughout the week there will be boat trips round the West Penwith coast, special guided walks and events at Levant and Geevor tin mines, discounted scenic flights and flying lessons at Land's End Aerodrome, displays at Cape Cornwall Country Club, a special photographic exhibition depicting the landscape of the area at the Botallack Count House Workshop, art exhibitions at Yew Tree Art Gallery, Morvah Schoolhouse and other galleries in and around St Just, and guided tours of Cape Cornwall's Coast Watch Look Out and Zennor Folk Museum. Daily highlights include rock pool searches, writing and crafts workshops, illustrated talks and films by artists and mining experts, guided walks and tours with naturalists, archaeologists and geologists, food and fun.

The festival is subsidised by the St Just Heritage Area Regeneration Project and organised by it in partnership with the National Trust, Geevor Tin Mine, St Just Tourist Information Centre and attractions, inns, galleries and other venues in the area.

Free programmes are available on www.landsendarea.co.uk, or in print form from St Just Library/Information Centre and many other venues. Bookings are essential as places are limited for many of the events - phone the Information Centre on 01736 78866 or email stjust.library@cornwall.gov.uk.
