40th Anniversary of the MGC Sportscar

This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the MGC Sportscar (3 Litre) in Cornwall, or anywhere else for that matter! An informal gathering of MGC owners, together with their cars, is being held on Sunday 25 th March at the Penhale Round Brewers Fayre, Fraddon (A30 Intersection known as Highgate Hill or affectionately - Hamburger Hill!) at 11.00am.

The MGC was developed to replace the Austin Healey 3000 and only had a production run between 1967 and 1969 of 9,002 cars of which only 3,435 were UK RHD before British Leyland, who had just taken over from BMC, ceased production to avoid competition within the group with the newly announced Triumph TR6. This makes the model rare and highly sought after with the majority of the production going to America. Less than 700 'live' UK RHD cars now appear on the MG Car Club's MGC Register.

An assembly of such cars in Cornwall is unusual and has attracted the confirmed interest of 12 MGC owners, including those from Hampshire, Totnes and Barnstable. This will be the largest gathering of this MG Model in Cornwall - EVER! Other Classic MG sports cars will be present.

Most people recognize the MGB and MGB GT with its production run of 512,243 but few people are aware of the existence of the MGC. This is an opportunity to seethe cars, and talk to the owners of one of MG and British Motoring History's most collectible sportscar.
