Towan Beach Under Fire Health and safety concerns threaten to remove a historic feature from Newquay's Towan Beach, the Cornish Guardian reported this week. The man-made sea pool, cut into the rocks at the foot of Towan Island has come under fire by officers from Restormel due to possible dangers and public liability. For nearly a century it has been enjoyed by visitors and locals alike, with accidents rarely occurring. Thankfully, Head of Tourism, Paul Wright, is investigating a solution to save the sea pool. The main problem is discovering who would be responsible for any accidents that may occur. It is certainly comforting to see positive steps being taken, but the compensation culture that the English have adopted from America does not fail to leave a bad taste in the mouth. Let us hope that this part of our history is left untouched. Carl Spencer |
