Treasure Hunt
5th September 2010
The Stithians Centre
Church Road
Stithians
Fancy a gentle stroll followed by a cream tea? Join our Treasure Hunt, starting at The Stithians Centre from 2.00pm, with tea from 4.00pm (even for those who didn’t do the walking). Start any time between 2.00pm and 3.30pm, entering as individuals or teams of any size.
For those who’ve not done one before, the idea of the Treasure Hunt is to follow a given route and answer a number of questions about things you can see along the way. Some questions will be relatively simple and obvious, others more cryptic and devious and may require that you share the setter’s sense of humour. We’ll keep the route within the village and suitable for all ages. You should be able to complete the Hunt in about an hour, although you could easily take longer if you wish.
Entry £1 per person, children under 10 free. Great fun.

A Chorus Line
9th to 11th September 2010
The Regal Theatre
Redruth
01209 216278
Redruth Amateur Operatic Society (Trust) presents ‘A Chorus Line’ live on stage. In an empty theatre, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete. The field’s been narrowed down to just 17 dancers. For these men and women, this audition is the chance of a lifetime. It’s what they’ve worked for — with every drop of sweat, every hour of training. But before the final cut is made, the director Zach asks each of them to talk about themselves. But Zach wants more than just their resumes. He wants to know about their families, friends, lovers, ambitions and careers. From funny to heartbreaking, these 17 dancers share with us the stories of their lives. They put themselves on the line to get a job on the line. And when they’re done, so is the audition, and the final chorus line of 8 dancers is chosen.
(Box office hours 11:30am – 10:00pm)
Show times: 7:30pm on 9th & 10th September, 5:00pm & 8:30pm on Saturday 11th September.
Ticket prices: £8 on 9th September, all other performances are £10.

Penzance
West by South West is a studio exhibition featuring paintings and ceramics by several of the foremost artists working in Penwith today: Ben Catt, Neil Davies, Brenda King, Jason Lilley, Lincoln Kirby Bell, Gary Long, John Piper, Michael Praed, Ken Symonds, Terry Whybrow and Ges Wilson. This group represents some of Cornwall’s finest artists whose work has been exhibited throughout the UK and abroad. They encompass a broad range of painting styles, from still-lifes and faux-naïve compositions to landscapes of varying degrees of abstraction. All are heavily influenced by the 19th and 20th century Newlyn and St Ives art movements and by the moors, mines, cliffs and coves that characterise the Penwith landscape.
Mowhay Barn is a barn that has been recently refurbished for the purpose of this exhibition. Formerly a carpentry workshop and before that a cowshed, it is located in the hamlet of Trebehor, just off the Land’s End to St Buryan road. The exhibition runs for two weeks and will be signposted from the B3315 near Polgigga. West by South-West is the first show in Cornwall for Eleven and a Half, a London-based art dealership specialising in the work of artists from the county. It represents 14 local painters and ceramicists, showing their work in exhibitions and at art fairs in the South East. All of the artists featured in West by South-West have been exhibited by Eleven and a Half in London in the past year. The show is open 7 days a week between 10.30am and 5.30pm.
10.30am-5.30pm daily. Signposted from the B3315.

Happidrome Four Art Exhibition
11th and 12th September 2010
Lizard National Nature Reserve
Goonhilly Downs
Helston
Goonhilly Downs, next to the Earth Satellite station is an unlikely venue for an art exhibition but in September, five artists will present new work at the former RAF Dry Tree radar station, now the Lizard National Nature Reserve. Through the support of Natural England, who manage the reserve, the artists have responded to the site, its history and associations to create new work. And the public are invited to see what they’ve done.
From bouncing round the site on a space hopper to listening to a reading of TS Elliott’s, The Wasteland, Happidrome Four offers visitors the chance to get up close and personal to contemporary art. Artists Sovay Berriman, Sara Bowler, Bruce Davies, Patrick Lowry and Kate Ogley will be available to talk about their pieces and encourage you to get involved.
The project has received support from Feast, Cornwall Council’s three year programme to enable high quality art events in locations across Cornwall as well as Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts Scheme. Happidrome Four will also benefit from green energy provided by the Penryn based company Kraft Maus who generate electricity for remote locations using renewable energy.
